The Real History of the Huntley Hills Southern Railroad
The Huntley Hills Southern Railroad Was inspired by real railroads both large and small (in length that is), from the East Broad Top, to the Argent Lumber Co., to the Roswell Railroad, to the Maine two footers, to the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad. The least known of the afore mentioned railroads, and the most influential to my layout was the Roswell Railroad. There is little known about the railroad, but it has become my favorite, especially because it use to run through where I live (in the 20's that is)!
I was NOT a fan of On30 for a long time. I thought it was un-proportional and just plane weird. Fast forward to 2013 when I started volunteering at the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, Georgia, and my first model railroad days as a volunteer, while I was sitting around I started to stare at Sam R.'s On 30 layout, the Watkins Glen Railroad, and I started to like the little railroad. I give the layout full credit for my liking of On30. After staring at the layout I decided to make one of my own. Fast forward again to Christmas 2013, and I finally got a On30 train set, the Rocky Mountain Explorer set, to be exact, from Bachmann. I quickly set about expanding the layout by buying a 4-4-0, spine cars, and side dump cars.
This summer (2014) I am planning to build a layout for my expanding empire, so stay tuned for more...
